The Deco Rocker Chair
A trip all the way to Dartford was needed to retrieve this Greaves and Thomas art deco rocking chair. The iconic banana shape and bentwood arms were highly influenced by the H269 chair developed by of the Czech designer Jindřich Halabala in 1931.
The chair was stripped right back to its frame. The original coir stuffing was washed and re-used over the existing spring system and additional stuffing in the form of horsehair was introduced, together with a layer of cotton felt. A layer of the original needle felt has further been added before an encasing layer of calico. Finally, a section of woolsafe has been introduced to reinforce the top fabric and create a quilted effect to the top stitching detail. The Designers Guid top fabric is a blend of 60% linen, 30% cotton and 10% polyamide.
